Rescheduled team away-day in London next week due to train strikes - bummed; it would have been great to get together.
Upgraded to Quarto 1.4. This website still takes way too long to render. If anything, it has gotten worse with this version. Over 16 minutes to render 215 pages. I need to find another system for managing this site.
This quote resonated:

(From: Gap International)“When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.” Making a long list of personal development metrics to track, and am conscious of Goodhart’s Law and weary of McNamara’s Fallacy
This is brilliant: The emotional arcs of stories are dominated by six basic shapes. The authors use 1,327 stories from Project Gutenberg to plot the six basic stories.
Reading, watching, listening
Interesting business stuff this week:
The future isn’t a place that we are going to go. It’s a place that you get to create.
Britain, consultation nation (FT paywall - use search to bypass). Yo! It’s us. Management consultancy is Britain’s fourth-biggest export.
Interesting tech stuff this week:
ML + XAI → Strong GLM. This is so good. I always did this “by hand” and while this is not fully automated, it is a great toolbox. See also the published paper SHAP for Actuaries: Explain any Model. I need to do more with this approach.
What I am reading now:

Until next week: Travel well, whichever road you are on 👋.
