Most of our team at Barnett Waddingham spent the first seven months of 2023 building and launching Data Navigator for Schools (DN4S). This is a large application built using R and Shiny and deployed on an in-house docker infrastructure.

Developed in partnership with the Independent Schools’ Bursars Association (ISBA) the tool provides financial and operational benchmarking with scenario planning for the sector across the UK and its Crown Dependencies.

ISBA says:

ISBA is delighted to launch the Data Navigator project with Barnett Waddingham for schools. This piece of work is intended to give schools a subscription service on which they can compare their financial performance to other schools of their type both locally and nationally. The information will build up over years and trends will be able to be identified, with policy set and decisions made to accommodate or accentuate the trends. John Murphie from ISBA and Allan Engelhardt from Barnett Waddingham explain exactly how it works.
